The Group of 20 committee at the International Youth Conference 2026 will be delving into: The Arms You Never Saw: Addressing Illicit Weapons Brokering, Grey-Market Arms Transfers, and Regulatory Gaps in Global Arms Supply Chains
While international attention often focuses on illegal weapons trafficking, a significant portion of global arms proliferation occurs through far less visible channels. This agenda examines the role of illicit weapons brokers, intermediary networks, shell companies, and fraudulent documentation in facilitating the movement of arms beyond the oversight of national and international authorities. Grey-market arms transfers frequently exploit legal loopholes such as falsified end-user certificates, covert re-export arrangements, offshore financial structures, and sanctions evasion mechanisms, allowing weapons to be diverted from their intended recipients into conflict zones, criminal networks, and non-state armed groups. As global supply chains become increasingly complex, distinguishing between legal commerce, regulatory negligence, and deliberate illicit activity has become a major challenge for governments.
The agenda invites delegates to assess the effectiveness of existing export control regimes, improve transparency within international arms markets, strengthen cross-border enforcement cooperation, and develop mechanisms to prevent the diversion of legally traded weapons. Ultimately, the committee must address how economic interests, national sovereignty, and global security can be balanced in an increasingly interconnected and opaque arms trade environment.

Jhassithaa Nadar, as the Vice Chair of the G20 committee at IYC, brings optimism, sincerity, and a passion for meaningful diplomacy. As the conference's only English Literature student, Jhassithaa combines strong communication with creative thinking, while studying Global Politics has fostered a commitment to amplifying underrepresented voices and approaching global conflicts with empathy and critical analysis. A confident public speaker, poet, and writer, Jhassithaa believes dialogue has the power to inspire change. Beyond academics, Jhassithaa is an experienced Bharatanatyam dancer whose creativity and discipline shape every endeavour. With an enthusiastic and collaborative spirit, Jhassithaa is committed to creating an engaging committee where every delegate feels empowered to share ideas, challenge perspectives, and embrace diplomacy.
